MAT6511   Phase Transformations in Materials Processing   (15 credits)

Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F7

Description

Much of materials science and engineering is concerned with microstructure, as it is a major factor in determining the properties of materials. Furthermore many manufacturing processes include solidification at some stage. The overall aims of this module therefore are to develop your understanding of: (a) the thermodynamics and kinetics of materials (b) the key factors which determine microstructural development during solidification processing as these are the fundamental tools for the control of microstructures.
